Brazilian comic adaptation wins incentive award in South Korea

The film project “Carniça”, an adaptation of the cartoon “Carniça ea Blindagem Mística”, by Chico Shiko, was the winner of the Bucheon Award for the incentive, announced on Tuesday (7/12) during the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea. The award is the main event of the Asian Fantastic Film Network (NAFF) market event, which is held in parallel with the South Korean festival.

Currently in development, the Brazilian film follows a woman attacked by a gang of thieves who steal her baby. She makes a pact to take revenge in this world or, if necessary, in the next.

“Carniça” will be directed by Renata Pinheiro (“Carro Rei”) and produced by André Pereira, of Lupa Filmes, who was in Bucheon to present the project to potential buyers, co-producers and financiers.

In addition to the financial incentive (approximately US $ 15,300), the production also won the Janela de Sangue award, which guarantees the credit, flights and accommodation paid to take the project to the Ventana Sur market event in Argentina.

“‘Carniça’ represents all the good things that Brazilian fantasy can give to the world: a western with cangaceiros, which is also a horror film and a story of revenge. Based on a major comic, Renata Pinheiro’s film is one of the most promising projects in the ecosystem of international fantastic cinema “, stated the jury that awarded the project the cash prize.
