THE Director’s Cut About Napoleon, Ridley Scott announced before the film’s theatrical release. With nearly 48 additional minutes, this new edit offers a more complete immersion in the life of the Emperor (Joaquin Phoenix) and offers more time for his wife Josephine de Beauharnais (Vanessa Kirby).
When it was released last November, the biographical feature film did not do as well as expected in France. Napoleon enthusiasts did not appreciate the film’s many historical inconsistencies, and Joaquin Phoenix’s performance was dismissed as nonsense by much of the audience.
Therefore, many hoped that the long version could rehabilitate the film.
This new montage made a surprise appearance on AppleTV+ on August 29 in most countries… but not in France. Internet users did not understand the decision not to offer the film in the country where the film is set.
Fortunately, the release of the long version of Napoleon in our region has only been delayed by a few days.
Thus, the film is already available in France on AppleTV+, but not without an unpleasant surprise. The long version is indeed offered on the platform, but not in the classic subscription.
Therefore, an additional cost of 17 euros will be charged to anyone who wants to discover this new montage, more than double the average price of a cinema ticket!
The film version of Napoléon (2h38) is available on AppleTV+ and myCANAL. The longer version (3h24) is now available digitally on Apple.
