- Tonight on Netflix: Fans have been waiting for at least 30 years, this movie corrects one of cinema’s biggest disappointments
A recipe that has largely proven itself
An impossible idyll in a luxurious setting, at the dawn of a disaster that is going to change the face of the world: after the unprecedented triumph of Titanic and its colossal revenues (1.8 billion GEL collected internationally), the recipe is worth trying. again.
In the early 2000s, Cameron’s liner was followed by many blockbusters. So, four years later, the Titanic arrived at Pearl Harbor, piloted by Michael Bay, who we have not seen before in this registry.
Directed by Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett (who will form the love triangle of the story), the film turns out to be a solid entertainment and a spectacular spectacle, which at times even takes on the appearance of a real fresco, and which many viewers will reach as a true minor classic.
Titanic is not for everyone
However, the miracle of Titanic will not be repeated, and even if Pearl Harbor has a favorable reception at the box office ($449 million worldwide), we are still a long way from the death caused by James Cameron in 1997.
On the critical side, Michael Bay’s blockbuster also doesn’t live up to its big brother. On AlloCiné, it receives an audience rating of 3.58 out of 5 stars (compared to Titanic’s 4.34). According to the in-house developed and artificial intelligence-based tool, 28% of Internet users who posted criticism on the Pearl Harbor profile criticize it for heightened American patriotism, while 16% of them think that the love intrigue is too clichéd and boring.
But as 19% of viewers noted, Michael Bay’s production is quality, and so Pearl Harbor deserves much better than the somewhat unfair comparison to the Titanic monument. If you’re looking for a movie to watch tonight (with friends or girlfriends) on Disney+, give it a try!
