What is a TV Box and how do you know if it is illegal?
Legal TV Boxes, approved by Anatel, are small devices that allow access to multimedia programming applications, the Internet and social networks. On older televisions that are not considered “smart”, the device can be connected to allow these accesses.
Anatel specifies that it is important for the consumer who buys a TV Box to check whether the device bears the Anatel brand and the number of the Approval Certificate corresponding to the product model. This guarantees that it is a legal TV Box.
“Another way to check whether a TV box is irregular is to check whether the product’s advertising claims that it provides free and unlimited access (without authentication) to a large number of channels, live games and other programs,” the agency warns.
The consumer can still check the file List of approved TV-Boxes from Anatel, which shows products that meet the quality, safety and warranty requirements required by the legislation and the agency. In 2023, Anatel reports blocking 3,900 illegal TV box servers.
