Rio de Janeiro court says there are no grounds to file charges against the councilor. When contacted, the defense of Jair Bolsonaro’s son did not respond
Judge Thales Braga, of the Rio de Janeiro Justice, ordered on Thursday 12 the resumption of the investigation into the case of an alleged “crack” in the office of advisor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL) to the Public Ministry. The magistrate of the 1st Specialized Criminal Court stated that there are inconsistencies in the complaint against seven public employees and in the archiving of the facts related to the advisor, and informed that the deputy must clarify these points. When asked to comment on the case, the defense of the son “02?” of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not respond.
Rio’s Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against seven current and former City Hall employees for allegedly committing “rachadinha” – a practice in which public employees are forced to return part of their salary – in the councilman’s office. Among them is Chief of Staff Jorge Luiz Fernandes, accused of spearheading the scheme to embezzle public employees’ salaries.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the attack occurred between June 2005 and December 2021 in Carlos Bolsonaro’s office. The investigation against the councilor was shelved because there was no evidence of his financial transactions.
The judge argued that there were no grounds to close the case against Carlos Bolsonaro and asked for clarification on the qualification of the crimes of the other defendants. After the clarifications, the Court will decide whether or not to accept the complaint.
