Tonight on TV: Alain Chabat’s unfairly misunderstood comedy

Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Alain Chabat takes us back to the Stone Age in comedy.

Based on an original idea by Jean-Paul Rouve and Maurice Barthelemy, which combines thriller, detective and prehistoric films, the Robins des Bois troupe (which also includes Pierre-François Martin Laval, Marina Fois, Pascal Vincent and Elis Larnicol) begins writing. rrrr!!!, thus specifying their desire to go to the cinema after passing through the boards and the small screen. In this case, they once again collaborated with Alain Chabat, then crowned with the success of Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra.

Screened at the opening of the Alpe d’Oise International Comedy Film Festival, rrrr!!! It’s far from unanimous with the press, though, averaging a 2.6 out of 5 on AlloCiné (out of 20 critics). Le Parisien’s headline reads “Nuuuul!” in capital letters, while L’Obs describes it as “a pitiful and pitiful pochad”, a “heartbreaking dead-end void”. “A film neither made nor made” according to Télérama and “Not funny” for Les Inrockuptibles.

Despite its 1.7 million admissions, rrrr!!! Considered a commercial failure. Nevertheless, over the years it acquired the status of a cult work. A true alien in the French cinematic landscape, a little gem of absurdist humor brimming with references, it is undoubtedly as memorable as its famous lines. “It will all be black!”…

rrrr!!! Alain Chabat with Maurice Barthelemy, Jean-Paul Rouves, Pierre-François Martin-Laval…
