Emmy Awards 2024: Rated 4.3 out of 5, best series of the year wins 19 awards, an absolute record!

Shogun, a little more history… The American-Japanese series becomes the most successful series of all time at a single Emmy ceremony, winning no less than nineteen awards.

But that’s not all, as it becomes the first non-English production (most of its dialogue is in Japanese with subtitles) to win the award for Best Drama Series. This cannot be repeated: in the history of American television there will be before and after Shogun…

The show’s lead actors also won awards: Hiroyuki Sanada was named Best Actor in a Drama, and Anna Sawai became the first Asian woman to win Best Actress in a Drama.

In the end, the only surprise of the evening was the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Although all indications were that the prize would go to The Bear (who took home three of the four major performance awards), in the end it was Hacks who won the trophy this year. Her co-star Jean Smart also walks away with the award for Best Actress in a Comedy.
