“Globo, I don’t accept”: They refused the consolation prizes after losing a place on the channel

Jô Soares, Boninho, Faustão and Ivan Moré reacted to unexpected decisions and embarked on another career

Boninho does not accept staying at Globo with its power emptied. Removed from the command programs, he was offered a contract to act in front of the cameras, as he did, successfully, on the jury of ‘Show dos Famosos’. The director preferred to leave the broadcaster.

Other big names on the channel had the same attitude: they refused a ‘consolation prize’ after losing a prestigious position, probably because they felt demoted in the status ranking.

In the podcast ‘Inteligência Limitada’, Ivan Moré said he was informed that he will leave the presentation of ‘Globo Esporte’ in São Paulo. “They take you away because the owner wants it,” he heard. It implied a feud with one of the heirs of the Marinho family.

According to the report, they offered a pay cut and a job as a journalist. “You’re lucky we want to stay with you,” the person in charge of the negotiations reportedly said.

Moré refused the conditions that would have represented a step back in his career. He wrote a letter in his own hand asking for his resignation. He spent 20 years in the company. Today he presents ‘Qualé, Moré?’ on RedeTV.

In the case of Jô Soares, the proposal was to reduce the frequency of his talk shows. From five days a week to two or three. He would share the time slot with another attraction characterized by interviews and humor.

The presenter did not accept it. He preferred the end of the program after 16 successful seasons. He was still employed for 1 year, without working. He was not able to realize another project on TV in the last 6 years of his life. He died at the age of 84 in August 2022.

“I think his heart was very sad when he was taken away from television,” said one of his best friends, director Nilton Travesso. “It all caused a little sadness inside him.”

Holder of the highest salary among Globo artists of the time, around R$ 5 million, Fausto Silva was surprised by the determination to remove him from Sunday, where he had been for 32 years, leader of the public for most of the time.

In return, they proposed to broadcast their program on Thursday nights. Faustão rejected it. The relationship with the channel was tense and it went on air months in advance, without saying goodbye to the audience. He went to the band. Two years later, he showed he had no regrets by recording a statement for “Domingão do Huck”, the attraction that followed him.
