If we look at Alice Bellaid’s previous top-rated film, we come across a feature film that finds some resonance with another film in direct news: Kaizen, after Inoxtag emerges from Everest.

This movie is Ascension, directed by Ahmed Silla, also starring Alisa Bellaid as the female lead.

Directed by Ludovic Bernard, this feature film has collected 7,034 ratings and 493 reviews, with an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars.

Ahmed Silla’s first lead film role, Ascension follows Sam, a young man who falls for Nadia’s love (Alice Bellaid), his public housing project on the mythical 8,848-meter climb that makes Everest the roof of the world. A departure that excites his friends, then the whole of 9-3 and soon the whole of France follows with emotion the exploits of this ordinary but loving young man. The result is a message of hope: everyone can invent their future, because anything is possible.

Submitted in competition at the 2017 Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival, The Ascension brought 1.13 million viewers to French cinemas and launched Ahmed Silas’ film career. Ludovic Bernard Adapts the book by Nadir Danduni”Loser on the Roof of the World”. This incredible story is indeed inspired by a true story, even if the director moved away from the source material.

Did Ahmed Silla really climb Mount Everest?

Although the actor did not actually climb Everest, the film was at least partially shot in Nepal, but not on the roof of the world, which was too dangerous. The team took a helicopter tour of the location in January (one of the coldest months) to shoot there in the spring.

The team also went to Chamonix mainly because there was not enough snow in Nepal. “We walked around the Aiguille du Goûter, a place very similar to the summit of Mount Everest. This is where we brought the totem and recreated the intermediate camps that the mountaineers in the film go through. Paradoxically, it was more difficult in Chamonix than in Nepal, as we were actually waist deep in snow, which is not very convenient for work!“, the director explains in the press conference.
