Life at the Good Doctor is definitely not a long, calm river. And it’s not Dr. Asher Wolke, played by Noah Galvin, who can say otherwise. Season 7 Episode 5, which airs this Wednesday September 18 at 10pm on TF1, actually marks the tragic death of a character.
sudden death
In the episode titled “The Atypical Couple,” Dr. Asher Wolke is beaten by an anti-Semitic attack while her boyfriend Jerome (Giacomo Baesato) sits in a nearby restaurant waiting to be married.
The scene in question takes place at the end of the episode where Asher reconnects with his Judaism. After attending a patient’s wedding ceremony, Dr. Volke takes Rabbi Benjamin (David Attar) back to his synagogue, which has been desecrated by two vandals.
Usher then told them to go and there would be no problem. When the thugs realize that their interlocutor is Jewish, the latter confirms it to them and suddenly adds that he is also homosexual and is ready to call the police. They seem to stop, but then come back to attack him: kicking him in the head, and Usher collapses at the end of the episode.
Why did Noah Galvin leave the show?
According to the information transferNoah Galvin wanted to pursue new possibilities, which led the writers to plan for an early release. The day after Good Doctor season 7 episode 5 aired in the US, the actress took to social media to address the sudden departure and talk about her time on David’s flagship medical drama Shore alongside Freddie Highmore.

Why did you kill Asher Volke?
Interviewed by The Wrap, Good Doctor screenwriter Adam Scott Weissman returned to the cause of this tragic death. “We started writing this episode with the idea that life doesn’t always have a happy ending. Sometimes things happen suddenly and tragically“, he explained. “It often becomes real when they affect someone we know or love on television.”
“It ends on a sad note, but it’s also a hopeful note because it’s a heroic moment for him, a moment where he embraces all aspects of his identity and does so to protect himself from others and to protect sacred space.“The death of this character will obviously have serious consequences for the doctors at St. Bonaventure.
