The 18th edition of CineBH – Belo Horizonte International Film Festivalis scheduled to take place between the 24th and 29th of September, transforming the city of Minas Gerais into the capital of cinema.

There will be 110 films (59 feature-length, 2 medium-length and 49 shorts) from 15 countries (Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, France, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic and Uruguay) and 13 Brazilian states (AL, AM, BA, ES, GO, MG, MS, PA, PB, PE, PR, RJ and SP) shown in 75 sessions. All screenings will be free of charge and will be divided into 10 thematic sections: Continent, Territory, Homage, Historical Dialogues, The City in Motion, Vertentes, Praça, Short Films, CineMundi, Mostrinha, Cine-Escola and IC Play.

Schedule

This year’s CineBH theme is “States of Latin American Cinema”. The program includes titles that have never been released in the commercial circuit of highly anticipated national films, such as The Business Women’s Clubof the honoree Anna Muylaery; The Day I Met Youof Andre Novais Oliveira; Pasargadaeof Dira Paes; Blood Soaked Beardof Aly Muritiba; West Againof Erico Rassi; between others.

At Mostra Continente, films never before released in the country will have a preview screening at CineBH they are Nothingof Adriano Guimaraes (Brazil); Teacherof Bruna Piantino (Brazil); Damn Eveof Pablo Spatola (Argentina); Super Powerful Pibasof Leonora Kievsky (Argentina); and Altamarof Ernesto Jara Vargas (Costa Rica).

The new films at the Territory Show are: Bad Reputationof Marta Garcia; Sun Infant Zamudio (Uruguay/Argentina); Car-passengerof Juan Pablo Polanco Carranza and Cesar Alejandro Jaimes Leo (Colombia), Saririof Laura Donoso (Chile); Supreme Posessionof Lucas Silva (Colombia).

The Historical Dialogues Exhibition, always focused on a look at the past reconfigured in the present, will pay tribute to the 95th birthday of the Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky showing his early career films, all produced in Mexico: Fando and Lis (1967), The Top (1970) and The Holy Mountain (1973).

Honored

The 18th CineBH will pay tribute this year to the São Paulo filmmaker Anna Muylaert. The director and screenwriter will be present at the opening of the event, scheduled for the evening of September 24th at Cine Theatro Brasil, when she will receive the official Troféu Horizonte of the event. Next, her newest film, The Business Women’s Clubwill be shown with free admission.

The festival will also hold a Tribute Showcase featuring titles from Muylaert. Four of his feature films will be screened in person: Durval Recordswhich will have an open-air session, in Praça da Liberdade; What Time Does She Come Back?; There Is Only One Mother and Dawnin rooms spread throughout the city. The online version of the exhibition will feature short and feature films directed by her.
