Eric Roberts apologized to his sister Julia Roberts after stating, in an interview with Vanity Fair made in 2018, which gave her a career.

In his new memoir, Runaway Train: On the Story of My Life So Far, Eric admitted that it “was a stupid thing to say” (via NME).

One of the things I would like to apologize for in this book is having said publicly, more than once, ‘If it weren’t for me, there wouldn’t be any Julia Roberts‘… This is not only unfortunate, but it is also false. And I hope that Julia Please accept this more public apology. It was a stupid thing to say. I was proud of her, but it was a distorted pride, in my own favor.

“Someone would have discovered her in a place like New York, even without my help,” mused the father of Emma Roberts. He argued, however, that he may have inspired his sister to begin an acting career in New York. Eric received nominations for Golden Globe and Oscarstarring in films such as The Expendables (2010) and Batman: The Dark Knight (2008).

“I was born to do this. I moved to New York when I wasn’t even old enough to drink beer in public… If Julie “If she had stayed in Atlanta, she probably would have married a rich guy and lived a very different life. So I’ll take credit, after I got away from my dad (or thought I had) and moved to New York, for telling my sisters, ‘Come on, girls, the water’s good. ‘ That’s when, I think, she saw my life as a young actor in New York, saw what I was doing for a living, and wanted to try it too,” he continued.

Right away, Eric made reference to his past drug problem: “Little did they know that I would become so difficult to live with. That’s why Julie and Lisa They soon wanted a place just for them. I was already deep in drugs. They lived with me for almost a year, and then I got them a place.”

“I needed my privacy because I was such a screwed-up guy who wanted to do screwed-up things, but I had the good sense to take care of them, to get them out of my apartment and keep them out of harm’s way,” he said, revealing that he paid for the sisters’ apartment for a year.

The actor also had a turbulent relationship with his ex-partner. Kelly Cunninghamwith whom he began a legal battle for custody of Emma. In an interview with Still Here Hollywood (via NME), he even admitted that his daughter asked him not to talk about her.
