Frozen 3: We know who will direct the sequel and fans can relax!

In June 2023, Jennifer Lee, who co-directed the first two Frozen films with Chris Buck, announced that she would not be directing the third and fourth installments of Elsa and Anna’s adventures.

The creative director of Walt Disney Animation Studios since 2019, the director explained to The Wrap that his new position prevented him from directing other films in the successful animated saga.

“I can’t say where we are with Frozen 3. All of our stories are directed by the artists at the studio. The direction we’re taking with this movie didn’t come from me. It came from an incredible person. This is a new guy, I haven’t told anyone about it, I’m amazed And I’m having fun with this team, because a lot of the artists in the studio grew up and were there for the whole process… Today they’re creating themselves and I think that’s good.”

Change of mind

However, Jennifer Lee seems to have changed her mind. He recently announced that he is stepping down as creative director at Walt Disney Animation Studios to return to directing. Thus, he will film Frozen 3 and 4.

In a press release, the director explains that he will be co-directing these sequels with Mark Smith.“I will be returning to film full-time writing and directing Frozen 3 and 4 with Mark Smith. I admit I was blown away when Mark pitched this new adventure to our team, and I’m in awe of the incredible work he’s done. Having developed this powerful story as a studio, we are relatively new to musical sequels and this will be our first story in two films at once.

I’m excited for this challenge and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to return to directing, and I can’t think of a better way to do it than with our Frozen family.

Frozen 3 Announced to hit our theaters on November 24, 2027. The date of the fourth opus is not yet known. Released in 2013, Frozen grossed $1.3 billion worldwide, while Frozen 2 (2019) grossed $1.45 billion at the international box office.
