28 Years Later, the first chapter of a new trilogy in the franchise, is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2025
Despite all the professional cameras used to shoot 28 Years Laterthe long-awaited third chapter of the franchise Exterminationstarted in 2002, the director Danny Boyle also used iPhones to capture images of the new product.
According to information from Wiredthe filmmaker adapted several devices, from the 15s model, to record the feature film. With a budget of US$ 75 million, Extermination 3 — which does not yet have an official title in Portuguese — became the largest production shot with smartphones until today.
What we already know about 28 Years Later?
Announced in December 2023, the new film’s plot has not yet been revealed, but it should take place almost three decades after the events of the first film, as the title indicates, loosely translated as 28 Years Later.
The screenwriter Alex Garland (Civil War) and the director Danny Boyle (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?) will be back in their roles in the new series. The story of the first sequel, Extermination 2released in 2007, should be ignored, as the film had no connections with the first film.

28 Years Later is scheduled to hit North American theaters in June 20, 2025will be the first of a trilogy. Nia DaCostaof The Legend of Candyman (2021) and The Marvels (2023), should replace Boyle in the direction of the second film.
