The North American artist will be the headliner this Friday 20th at Rock in Rio
The last time I Katy Perry played a show in Brazil, the young Rafael Andrade was only 13 years old. Today, at 7 p.m., he celebrates his arrival at Rock in Rio 2024 after being fired and ignoring the dreaded “mother’s curse” to see the owner of the hit song “Firework”. The singer will perform this Friday 20th along with other artists in a line-up dedicated only to women.

Sitting on the lawn of Cidade do Rock, in the West Zone of the capital Rio de Janeiro, the Salvadoran anxiously awaits the show of Katy Perry, who will be on stage at Mundo only at midnight. In the meantime, the katycat (as the artist’s fans are called) recalled the saga of arriving at Rock in Rio.
“I bought a ticket for the festival in December and was fired in January. There was no prospect until May,” he said. “I was already thinking about giving up coming when, in May, I was hired for an internship,” he added.
The first paycheck in his new job would not arrive until June, just over three months before Rock in Rio. The tight schedule and lack of money did not discourage Rafael. The fan used the entire sum he received to pay for accommodation in Santa Teresa, in the center of Rio. From there it takes almost two hours to get to Cidade do Rock.

“First of all, I paid for the accommodation. It arrived in July, I bought a one-way ticket. In August, I bought mine back. It was like that, very slowly, but I never thought of giving up,” he assured.
Rafael’s efforts to fulfill his dream of seeing his favorite pop diva went against his family’s wishes. He, who learned to appreciate Katy Perry’s songs from an aunt, also felt his mother’s curse not to attend the festival. “My mother wanted the plane to crash! She and my father didn’t give me any right to come nor did they approve,” he said. “It’s definitely the biggest folly of my life,” he said.
