“SM. Marvel”: Mutants coming to the MCU for the first time

The final episode of “Ms Marvel” confirmed for the first time the arrival of mutants in the MCU, which could pave the way for the arrival of the X-Men.

The last moments of the “Ms. Marvel “confirmed that there are now mutants in the MCU. Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Ms. Marvel has been trying to discover the origin of her powers since the very first login and at the end of the series confirmed that it is not just of the bracelet or familiar traits: Kamala is a mutant.

Although unexpected in this scenario, the arrival of mutants in the MCU has been anticipated for a long time. Since Disney’s acquisition of Fox, which reunited the rights of the X-Men at Marvel Studios, the mutants were expected to make it to the MCU. Kevin Feige himself, at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, said this day would come.

Since then, several theories have been created as to how this would happen. Would the X-Men be introduced? Would Scarlet Witch change her origin to return to being considered a mutant like in the comics? But, so far, nothing indicated the opening for the arrival of mutants in the MCU.

In the last scene of the series (before the post-credits), we see a dialogue between Kamala and Bruno (Matt Lintz), where a boy fascinated by science explains that there is a difference between Kamala’s genes in relation to the rest of her. family, “like a mutation”.

Marvel even made it clear that this wasn’t just a coincidence and included the “X-Men: The Animated Series” theme song in one scene, formalizing the mutants’ arrival in the MCU. The song was also used in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, to introduce Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart). The use either way indicates that the song could become the official X-Men, or mutants in general, in the MCU.

Despite this revelation, the heroine Ms Marvel is not a mutant in the Marvel comics, but an Inhuman, an ancient offshoot of the human race that is the result of the experiments of the Kree, people we know in “Captain Marvel”. But the MCU has altered Kamala’s origin, perhaps because she abandoned the Inhumans introduction after the failure of the TV series “Marvel’s Inhumans”, which is not part of the MCU canon.

It is not yet known when, or in what form, the X-Men will arrive in the MCU, but the appearance of Professor Xavier and the discovery that Ms Marvel is a mutant seems to be getting closer and closer.

All episodes of “Ms. Marvel ”are available on Disney +.
