Brazilian striker Ludmila scored her first goal on Saturday night for the Chicago Red Stars, a team she began defending after competing in the Olympic Games for the Brazilian team. The 29-year-old found the back of the net in a 1-0 win over the San Diego Wave. With the result, her team now has 29 points, surpassing the Portland Thorns and moving into sixth place in the NWSL, the professional league in the United States.
Ludmila’s goal was scored in the 12th minute of the first half. The player headed Hannah Anderson’s cross without giving goalkeeper Sheridan any chance.
It was only Ludmila’s third game for the Chicago Red Stars, and her second as a starter. The striker made her debut in a 1-0 loss to league leaders Orlando Pride. She came on as a second-half substitute and played 25 minutes. Last week, the striker played the entire game in a 1-0 win over the Portland Thorns, and this Sunday she started again against the San Diego Waves.

Ludmila joined the Chicago Red Stars after playing seven seasons at Atlético de Madrid in Spain. The team will be the Brazilian’s second abroad. In Brazil, the striker defended Rio Preto and São José before packing her bags and leaving for Spain in 2017.
More Brazilians
In addition to Ludmila, other Brazilians were also in action this Saturday night in the NWSL. Playing at home, Ary Borges’ Racing Louisville defeated Aline Gomes and Kerolin’s North Carolina Courage 2-1, while Andressa Alves’ Houston Dash defeated Seattle Reign 1-0.
With this Saturday’s win, Racing Louisville reached 25 points, took eighth place and entered the playoff qualification zone. Despite the loss, the North Carolina Courage remained in fifth place with 32 points. The Houston Dash won again after nine games and left the last place in the NWSL to the Utah Royals.
