With laps above 90 points, Augusto Akio and Pedro Barros took the title and second place in a final full of Brazilians
Brazil won the World Cup double Skateboard Park this Sunday, 22nd, in Rome, with the title of Augustus Achio and the silver of Peter Barros. Bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Akio scored 93.53, followed by Barros, with 90.72. Denmark’s Viktor Solmunde completed the podium with 90.58.
Luigi Cini and Kalani Konig also competed in the final, but finished outside the top 3. Shortly before the men’s decider, Raicca Ventura has won the unprecedented world title for Brazilian women. And Rayssa Leal was also a world champion in Skate Streetbeating seven Japanese women in the final, capping an incredible year for the sport in the country.
At 23, Augusto Akio was the only Skate Park medalist at the Paris Olympics to compete at the World Championships in Rome and, thanks to his performance in France, he entered directly into the quarterfinals in Italy.
The first of three decision rounds was marked by falls or imbalances and only two competitors managed to complete the 45-second presentation. Solmunde led with 90.58, followed by Luigi, with 87.49.
Seeking his second title, 2018 champion Pedro Barros suffered another fall in the second round. Akio made a mistake on his final move, but still finished third for a moment. The second round maintained the top two spots and placed Sweden’s Hampus Winberg in third place, with 85.18.
In the last lap, Pedro finally completed his lap and scored 90.72, taking the lead, but had to wait for the performance of the other seven finalists. Before his last attempt, Akio performed his traditional juggling act and managed to complete a flawless lap scoring 93.53, stealing the lead from his compatriot. Last to go on the track, Cini and Kalani fell and failed to reach the podium.
Augusto Akio celebrated his milestone, once again, by showing off his juggling skills on the sidelines of the Rome track, in a scene similar to when he received the ticket that won him the bronze medal at Paris-2024.
