While the American presidential campaign is in full swing, just a few weeks before the election, a shocking biopic about one of the two candidates is preparing to hit theaters very soon. The highly anticipated film The Apprentice, due in France on October 9, depicts the rise to power of former United States President and current Republican candidate Donald Trump.
If the title of the feature film is a direct reference to the politician’s 2004 reality series, The Apprentice actually recalls the beginnings of his career on screen in the 70s and 80s, with the future real estate tycoon played by actor Sebastian Stan, just as unrecognizable as the trailer suggests.
For this role, the Marvel star, whom the audience was able to see recently in Dumb Money, Fresh or the TV series Pam & Tommy, prepared diligently. In addition to gaining weight, the actor devoted a lot of time to studying the former president by watching a lot of videos.
“I had 130 videos on my phone dedicated to his physique. and 562 videos with photos from different eras ‒ from the 70s to the present day ‒ to identify his speech patterns and try to improvise like him. Sebastian Stan recently announced this in an interview Diversity.
The actor stars alongside Jeremy Strong in The Apprentice as Trump’s unscrupulous lawyer Roy Cohn. The cast includes Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Catherine McNally and Charlie Carrick.
Presented in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Ali Abbasi’s feature film (Nights of Mashhad) was badly received by Donald Trump’s team, who especially tried to block its release in the United States.
Before the US election, catch The Apprentice in cinemas on October 9.
