Martin Scorsese: Bad news for movie lovers around the world

After Assassin’s Creed, his last feature film, Martin Scorsese planned to start shooting two films back-to-back. One was a biblical epic, The Life of Jesus, based on Shushaku Endo’s 1973 novel, and the other was a biopic about singer Frank Sinatra with Leonardo DiCaprio announced in the title shot and Jennifer Lawrence in the title role.

The American magazine specifies that Life of Jesus was to be the first of two projects to go into production. While no official casting has been announced, a source told the outlet that the film is still in development despite the delay. Martin Scorsese is set to direct this feature film, which he will finance independently, just like Silence, also adapted from Endō’s novel and released in 2016. The filmmaker had hoped to film in Israel, Italy and Egypt, but those locations have not yet been confirmed and may require specific authorization.

According to Endo’s novel, The life of Jesus Explores the complex, human and divine aspects of Christ, like Scorsese’s 1988 The Last Temptation of Christ. No official casting has been announced, but Andrew Garfield’s name (already cast in Silence) has been floated.

As for SinatraThe film looked further ahead, with a previously announced November start date, but was eventually pushed back. According to multiple sources, the technical teams were actually informed in mid-August that the date was cancelled, with no new date given.
