The film’s screenplay, written by Timothy Michael Hayes, is a free adaptation of the Massacre of the Innocents story told in the Gospel according to Matthew.
A living legend of cinema, Anthony Hopkins has twice won the Oscar for Best Actor, The Silence of the Lambs and then The Father. In the past, the latter appeared in other biblical productions, notably in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah or the mini-series Peter and Paul (as Paul of Tarsus).
The movie Mary is scheduled to be released this year, exclusively on Netflix.
