Many are already comparing The Penguin to The Sopranos, and this is no coincidence, as the iconic series is cited as the source of inspiration for the new production of DC Comics. A kind of ersatz version of Tony Soprano, Colin Farrell plays the larger-than-life Oswald Cobblepot, deep in Gotham City, where the law of the mighty reigns supreme.
But there is another connection between The Penguin and The Sopranos, and actress Christine Milioti is the source of that connection. The American actress, best known for her role as the mother in How I Met Your Mother, lends her features to Sofia Falcone, the daughter of mobster Carmine Falcone and a former resident of Arkham Asylum.
His first television role
But long before she became a leading actress, Christine Milioti made her television acting debut… on The Sopranos! After appearing in three episodes of season 6, the latter lent her features to Catherine Sacrimon, the daughter of Johnny Sack – the godfather of the New York clan, with whom Tony Soprano does business.
“It was my first role. I didn’t even know the series because I couldn’t subscribe to HBO at the time”he said on his YouTube channel Jonathan Bloomberg interviews. “I think that ignorance helped me because I was very young and didn’t know anything about how a film set works, how cameras work, etc.”
Links between the two series, but also differences
When asked about the connections between the two series, Christine Miliotti admitted “Similarity between the two series”But believes that despite studying the world of organized crime in two cities (“One real, the other more or less fictitious”), the American actor emphasizes his presence “Completely Different Characters” in both series.
Christine Milioti’s role is limited to only a few brief scenes, and many have forgotten that the actress appeared in The Sopranos. Ironically, however, the latter is starring almost twenty years later in a new production that claims to be influenced by what is generally considered the greatest series of all time.
