According to the information termNetflix is preparing a serial adaptation of the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, published in September 1952. This book, often the author’s most ambitious, tells the complicated story of two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons.
The novel had already been adapted into a 1955 feature film of the same name by Elia Kazan, which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama the following year. This film was directed by James Dean, an American film legend who died prematurely at the age of 24, the year East of Eden was released.
Almost seventy years later, it is Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of Elijah Kazan, who will write and produce a new adaptation of East of Eden as a series for Netflix in collaboration with Jeb Stewart (Vikings: Valhalla).
Series Synopsis: Set in Salina Valley, California. The multi-generational story of the Trask family and their two sons who compete for the attention of their farmer father.

The actor replacing James Dean in the lead role of Carl Trask is none other than Mike Feist, one of the faces of Hollywood’s new generation. The 32-year-old actor is known for his roles in Panic and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.
He will be surrounded by Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Dr. March’s Daughters, Oppenheimer), Christopher Abbott (Poor Creatures) and Hun Lee (Banshee, Warrior). The 7-episode series will be directed by Garth Davies (The Lion, Lake Top) and Laure de Clermont-Toner (Lady Chatterley’s Beloved).
According to Deadline , the limited series adaptation will explore the novel’s themes of trauma, resilience, love, betrayal, duty and free will. “In bringing this family saga to life, I have not lost the resonance of my family connection with the material”Zoe Kazan explains.
