Arrascaeta vents after elimination: ‘I chose to be Flamengo’

The Uruguayan midfielder was recently criticized by fans for taking a photo wearing his Peñarol shirt as a child

Arrascaeta posted on his social networks venting about Flamengo’s elimination against Peñarol in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores. Furthermore, the midfielder had an image of himself when he had just recently stepped out wearing the Uruguayan club’s shirt. Thus, in the publication, he took the opportunity to declare his love for Rubro-Negro.

“Since I was a child I have always dreamed of playing and winning the Libertadores. This dream, which seemed impossible, came true, but getting there required a lot of work and effort. In fact, I have always had to fight to get everything I have. Since when I was a child, this is what my parents taught me, self-love, humility and gratitude when things don’t go the way we want and your character is questioned, the only way we have is to demonstrate our value. I always say: either you are Flamengo or you are against Flamengo and I have chosen to be that. And it will be like this until my last day at the club.

The Uruguayan midfielder was only the third player from the Rio club to speak about the elimination. In addition to him, defender Fabrício Bruno also spoke to the press at the end of the match and goalkeeper Rossi participated in the press conference together with coach Tite.

Without managing to overturn the result in Uruguay, Flamengo has continued without winning in the country for almost 29 years. Furthermore, he failed to break the taboo of never having beaten Peñarol or scored a goal for the Libertadores team.
