The midfielder has been playing football in the Asian country since 2019
Since 2019 in South Korean football, Brazilian Willyan Barbosa has been hoping to score his 50th goal in South Korea. At 30, the FC Seoul striker has already played 152 games and scored 49 goals in the country. The next opportunity to achieve the historic feat could happen this Sunday (29th), in the clash against Suwon, in the K-League.
Born in Belo Monte, Pará, Willyan spent time at South Korean clubs such as Gwangju, Gyeongnam and Daejeon before joining FC Seoul in 2023. For this reason, he commented on the possibility of achieving a significant milestone on the continent:
“I am very happy, because it is an important goal that I can reach and that few foreigners reach here. I hope to reach it as quickly as possible, but my main goal is to contribute to the success of FC Seoul. Besides personal numbers, what matters really that’s what we’re doing as a team.”
The capital club occupies sixth place in the South Korean championship and has already secured a place in the playoffs for the title game with two rounds to spare. A feat, in fact, that the club has not achieved since 2019. In this way Willyan Barbosa dreams of winning the scudetto. Something that, in addition to national glory, leads to a place in the next edition of the Asian Champions League.
“Five years have passed without the club entering the top six and, this season, we did it. Everyone is happy, but we know we can go further. Our goal is to fight for the title and finish among the top three to secure a place in the Asian Champions League,” he said.
