‘Probably the dumbest movie ever made’: Johnny Depp doesn’t remember his second role 39 years ago

While promoting the director’s latest film, Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, Johnny Depp revisited a career film that still deeply embarrasses him today.

We have to go back to 1985 to find it Johnny Depp as Jack – a far cry from his legendary Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean saga – at a private resort (or sunburn), the second feature film of his career, the first being The Legendary Freddy – Chapter 1: Claws of the Night (1984) with Wes Craven.

In Private resortHe also played the main role in the film for the first time, sharing the poster with Rob Morrow, who years later became the legendary Joel Fleishman from the TV series Northern Exposure and then FBI agent Don Eppes from Numb3rs.

The film tells the story of two young people, Ben (Morrow) and Jack (Depp), who are going to spend the vacation of a lifetime in the luxury hotel Private Resort in Miami. Once there, they concentrate on their favorite pastime: flirting with girls. But destiny has much more to them…

Directed by George Bowers, the comedy was a colossal commercial failure and almost no one remembers it today. On the movie poster we can also read “A private resort where every room has a great view“…you get the point. Nearly 40 years later, the feature film remains a thorn in its side Johnny Depp who had already spoken on the subject in a 1987 interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader.

I was in Los Angeles for six months and I shot Private Resort, probably the dumbest movie ever made.

It is clearly seen that Johnny Depp He did not have good memories of this film, but in the end every actor has a dark spot in his filmography. For example, Jim Carrey clearly knows what the biggest mistake of his career is, and Leonardo DiCaprio believes that a certain sci-fi movie is his. They were all there, or nearly so.

If you want to see (or re-watch) Private Resort just to make up your own mind (and have a few laughs), you can find the film on VOD on special platforms.
