Whether famous or not, every actor and actress has their list of favorite films — even as a way to reflect their influences. Who has already revealed their favorites to the public was Johnny Depp.

The revelation was made by the actor to EntertainmentWeekly. Johnny Depp He chose five films, three of which were released in the 1980s – the decade in which he began his career -, a classic from the 1940s based on a work by a renowned writer and a feature film featuring him. Daunbailó (1986)

Daunbailó Its plot is three inmates — two of whom were unjustly convicted — trying to find a way to escape from prison. Unlike other similar films, this one focuses on the protagonists’ interaction rather than their escape plans and dynamics. The Misfits is based on the life of its director and screenwriter, Bruce Robinson — more precisely the period of the late 1960s in London. Its plot explores two unemployed actors who share an apartment. The duo decides to travel to forget their problems, but the plans don’t go as expected. Johnny states:

No other film in history has been so quoted or inspired as much cult loyalty as this one. Probably the funniest movie I’ve ever seen! Bruce Robinson. There’s another genius there. Literally one of the top three films of all time for me.”

An Adventure in Martinique (1944)

This classic is based on the book of the same name by the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway. An Adventure in Martiniquemixes adventure, war and romance and explores the loving relationship between a fisherman living on the island of Martinique and an American nomad during the time when France (responsible for controlling Martinique) had to resist the Nazi invasion in the Second World War. The actor declares:

A marriage of three of my favorite things: Bogartfilm noir from the 40s and Hemingway. I don’t know how to overcome this. It’s not fair to anyone, is it? Oh yes… and Lauren Bacall as every man’s dream girl with a pulse and more.”

Gypsy Life (1988)

This little-known title, produced in three countries — the United Kingdom, Italy and the then Yugoslavia — has as its plot a young gypsy with telekinetic powers, but who is tricked into using them in crimes. Gypsy Life portrays its protagonist from his childhood, in a Yugoslav village, to the beginning of his adult life, in the Italian city of Milan, where he begins to lead a criminal life. Depp comments:

Emir Kusturica (director) is a genius. This is visual poetry, with a healthy helping of magic and absurdity. One of the last true authors, alongside Tim Burton and Jim Jarmuschkeeping the art of cinema alive.”
