The career of the Grêmio defender will end in December, and he explained that, even if he feels good physically, he will hang up his boots to dedicate more time to his family.
— I left home at 17, now I’m 39. I’ve been on this path for 22 years. If I stay here I will always train, I will take care of my diet, my body, but this demands a lot from me. Now I want to do something else – said Geromel.
— I’m prioritizing time with my family, spending more time at home, taking my kids to school — he explained.
According to Geromel, announcing that he will end his career in two months was a decision to “avoid speculation”. But he has not yet planned what he will do in the future.
— My wife suffers because I stay at home. He’s already found me eight jobs. If I decide to do something, I will study and prepare, but I will do things well, as I have done all my life – underlined the Grêmio idol.
The defender has become one of the club’s biggest idols, participating in the revival of national and international titles, as well as wearing the shirt of the Brazilian team. With Kannemann he formed one of the best defenses in Italian history. With this decision he acquires the promise of retiring to the Rio Grande do Sul tricolor. The end of his career was supposed to be mid-year, but an injury and flooding delayed the announcement a little longer.
There are 11 games left until the end of Grêmio’s season, all for the Brasileirão. In the last round the Tricolore will face Corinthians, at the Arena, on 8 December.
