Do you want a family movie? In October, 13 feature films aimed at young audiences are released in our cinemas. Here’s a selection of movies to watch with the family in October, categorized by release date and age to help you find your way.

Also note the short film program releases for the little ones: My Little Halloween (in theaters October 9), MacPat the Singing Cat and the Owl, a must-see children’s game from October 16.

Maya, give me a title – from 6 years old

Released on October 2 – In 2023, Michel Gondry spoke volumes about himself in The Book of Decisions, a comedy inspired by his mental illness that struck him during the post-production of L’Écume des jours and in which Pierre Nin played his alter ego. A year later, the two men found themselves on an even more personal project: a collection of animated stories by the director over the years for his daughter Maya.

Released on October 16 – 82 years after the Disney classic, Bambi returns to cinema with Bambi, the story of life in the woods. Directed by Michelle Fessler, the feature film shows the different stages of a flower’s life in the forest, narrated by Mylene Farmer.

Released on October 16 – Adapted from Crockett Johnson’s bestselling book first published in 1955, Harold and the Magic Pencil is the new film from Carlos Saldanha, director of Ice Age, Rio and Ferdinand.

When he’s a character in his book, nerdy Harold can bring anything he wants to life with a simple stroke of his magical purple pencil. As an adult, Harold decides to take himself out of his book and into the real world, where he discovers that he has much to learn about life and our world. Plus, his trusty purple pencil can lead to far more comical situations than he could have imagined…

Starring Zachary Levy (Shazam), Lil Rel Hower, Zooey Deschanel and Jemaine Clement, this film about the power of imagination takes you on a magical adventure.

Savages – from 8 years old

Released on October 16 – In 2015, he created one of the most beautiful animated films of the 21st century, My Life with Zucchini, a children’s learning story that did not shy away from difficult topics. So we had to wait nine years to see Claude Barra in the movies, but the wait was worth it.

A frame-by-frame animated ode to nature, Sauvages once again speaks to difference and family in the broadest sense, with Keria, her cousin Selai and a baby orangutan named Oshi fighting to save the Borneo rainforest from destruction.

A feature film in which Claude Barras once again pays attention to form and substance, and which should make it possible to introduce some young members of society to current issues, taking into account ecology.

The first animated film in the sci-fi saga inspired by Hasbro’s toys since the original in 1986, this film is set entirely on Cybertron and tells the story of how two brothers-in-arms, Optimus Prime and Megatron, became sworn enemies, leading to the greatest. On the French voice casting side, Adrien Antoine portrays Optimus Prime, actor Chris Hemsworth is the French voice who voices the VO character, Baptiste Mark plays D-16, the young bot who would become Megatron, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry in VO Philip Lachaux lends his voice to B-127, and Audrey Fleurault doubles as Bumblebee.

Flow, the cat who was no longer afraid of water – since 8 years old

Released on October 30 – After going through the last Cannes Film Festival, Flow was seen as excited about the selection. After four years elsewhere, Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis takes us back to nature, a full-fledged character in his animated world. Or at least it’s an animal that has a leading role.

Or a cat that has been invaded by water (his greatest fear!) must learn to live with other animals on a boat. A wordless adventure that prefers to tell its story through images, building bridges between animated film and video games.

Even if it talks about ecology or consumerism, Flow is aimed at a very wide audience, ready to succumb to the beauty of this feature film, inspired by the writings of La Fontaine to characterize its characters.
