On August 29, 2024, the second season of the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” was released. The production has eight episodes, which will be released weekly. Furthermore, it includes some new features, such as the change of the actor who plays the character of Adar.
Who is Adar in The Ring of Power?
Adar is a character created directly for the Rings of Power series. He appeared in the second episode, in a context in which Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) was one of the protagonists.
In the episode, Arondir travels to a city dominated by evil forces united with Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi). Then Adar appears, having been summoned by the orcs who come across Arondir. He appears to be the leader of the series’ group of hateful beings.
An important detail of the name “Adar” is that it has elven origins and means “Father”. In the series, the elves speculate that his name is actually an alias for Sauron, as the villain has several names. Another interesting detail is that Sauron is a character with the power to transform into whoever he wants.
However, this is a theory that has not been confirmed, as season 2 features the return of Sauron, who seeks to rebuild his forces and see the creation of the Rings of Power after being expelled by Galadriel.
So, the thing is that Adar is a surprisingly careful general with his orc army and that he has a very strong leadership role among the group of hateful beings in the series.
Why did The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power change the Adar actor?
In the first season, Adar was played by actor Joseph Mawle, who surprised fans by not being part of the second season. According to the actor, the decision came from him, as he aims to explore new characters and stories in his career.
His departure was harmonious, so much so that before leaving he gave his sincere support to the entire Rings of Power team. In addition to Mawle, the series also lost Nazanin Boniadi, the actress who played Bronwyn in the first season.
Now, who takes over the role of Adar is Sam Hazeldine. The actor is known for many successful performances in recent years. Among his main performances are Netflix’s The Witcher, in which he plays the character of Eredin, and Sandman, in the role of Barnaby Farrell.
