New documentary features around 20 hours of interviews with Lyle and Erik Menendez, and addresses the allegations of sexual abuse against their father
After the success of the miniseries Menendez Brothers: Parental Killersnew chapter of the anthology MonstersNetflix releases, this Monday (7), the documentary The Case of the Menendez Brotherswhich recalls the story of the brothers Lyle and Erik Menendezresponsible for the deaths of their own parents.
The new feature brings around 20 hours of unpublished interviews with the brothers, who revisit, for the first time in 30 years, the trial that sentenced them to prison in the 1990s. The production also features interviews with lawyers involved in the trial, journalists who covered the case and family members, and mainly addresses the accusations of sexual abuse against José Menendeztheir father.
The Case of the Menendez Brothers — directed by Argentine filmmaker Alejandro Hartmann (The Photographer and the Postman: The Crime that Stopped Argentina), which promises to offer “a new view and a new perspective on a case that people only think they know about” — premieres just days after a new hearing was scheduled to reevaluate the brothers’ trial.
“We received evidence. We received a copy of a letter that was allegedly sent by one of the brothers to another family member talking about him being a victim of sexual abuse.”, George Gascónfrom the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, in a press conference last Thursday, October 4 [via Variety].
