In 2001, Anne Hathaway appeared in The Princess of the World in spite of herself by Garry Marshall, the director of Pretty Woman. He plays a young American who discovers that he is the sole heir to a kingdom in the fictional country of Genovia. Anne Hathaway signs her first film role there. This comedy, which has become a cult over the years, will return with a new opus.
The actor, who won an Oscar in 2013 for Les Misérables, confirms the project, while also revealing the name of the director: Adele Lee, who we owe Crazy Rich Asians and the screenplay for the Disney animated film Raya and the last dragon.
Through a video posted on her official Instagram account, Anne Hathaway shared a statement using the iconic line from the films “Shut up!“:
“As a die-hard fan of the original film, I’m excited to see the third installment of this beloved franchise come to life– said Adel Lim in a shared statement term. We look forward to celebrating key pillars of female empowerment, joy and mentorship with audiences around the world.”
The plot of the third film is not yet known, and if Anne Hathaway will return to the character of Mia Thermopolis, there is no word on whether Julie Andrews will return after her return.
Before returning to the Princess and the Princess Wedding sequel, the actor will return for the second installment of The Devil Wears Prada, which is set to begin filming next November.
