Francis Ford Coppola Praises Todd Phillips for Joker

The long-awaited sequel to the 2019 hit film hit theaters recently and, amid criticism, won over the director of The Godfather

Joker: Delirium for Twothe long-awaited sequel to the 2019 hit film, has not been very well received by international critics, but the film starring Joaquin Phoenix (Napoleon) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) ended up conquering Francis Ford Coppola.

Responsible for productions such as The Godfather (1972), Apocalypse Now (1979) and, more recently, Megalopoliswhich premieres at the end of October in Brazil, the filmmaker used his social networks to praise the director Todd Phillips for work on DC’s latest:

“The films of Todd Phillips They always surprise me and I really like them. From the wonderful If You Drink Don’t Marryhe is always one step ahead of the audience, never doing what they expect. Congratulations on Joker: Delirium for Two!”he wrote Coppola.

In the publication, the filmmaker also thanked one of his productions for having served as inspiration for the novelty: “I am also honored to [saber que] the film’s director of photography, LawrenceShermentioned that the film is visually inspired by The Bottom of the Hearthe added, referring to the musical directed and released by Coppola in the 1980s.

What is the story of Joker: Delirium for Two?

In Joker: Delirium for Twowhich is a musical, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is admitted to Arkham Sanitarium while awaiting trial for his crimes such as Joker. As he struggles with his dual identity, Arthur ends up encountering true love, in the form of Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga), and finds the music that has always been inside him.

In addition to Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz also returns in the second film as Sophie Drummondthe villain’s romantic interest in the first film. Among the new features, Lady Gaga is the main addition, but it also gains the company of Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jacob Lofland (A Son), Catherine Keener (Run!), Ken Leung (Lost) and Harry Lawtey (The Pale Blue Eye).
