Inside Game on Netflix: Is there a sequel planned?

Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is recommended that you watch the movie “The Inner Game”.

After causing a sensation at American festivals, the horror thriller started creating a buzz on Netflix after it was posted online. By word of mouth, this film has slowly climbed the platform’s top viewership charts due to its original story and many twists.

Trailer and short film director Greg Jardine’s first feature Jeu Interior is an unusual and stylized thriller that combines horror and science fiction. The film tells the story of a group of friends who gather for a pre-wedding party to make up for lost time and celebrate the union of the groom-to-be.

But an unexpected visitor, their long-lost comrade, turns the evening upside down when he arrives in a mysterious machine that allows people to switch bodies. He then invites the rest of the gang to participate in a twisted game: swap bodies and minds and try to guess who’s who.

The cast is filled with young talent such as: Brittany Ann O’Grady (White Lotus), James Morosin (College Girls Sex Live), Gavin Leatherwood (The New Adventures of Sabrina), Alicia Debnam-Carey (Fearful). Walking Dead), Devon Terrell (Barry), David W. Thompson (Panic), Madison Davenport (Sharp Objects), Nina Bloomgarden (The Idea With You) and Rayna Hardest (The Flash).

There could have been a different ending to the “inner game”.

For those of you who have seen Inner Game, you’ll have seen that the game, which starts out pretty exciting, quickly turns into an existential nightmare as tempers quickly heat up. By exchanging body envelopes, the friends discover hidden truths, suppressed desires, and old grudges.

But above all, we understand that this is a story of revenge. As Reuben in Danny’s body and Brooke’s in Maya’s body after Brooke’s death and annulment, a new arrival appears on the scene: Beatrice, Forbes’ little sister, who brought the car.

Except that Beatrice is actually in Forbes’ body and Forbes is in Beatrice’s body. The latter wanted revenge for the party where Dennis and the rest of the group humiliated him and which led to his internment. So he took Forbes’ body and crashed the party to get revenge on the others.

The whole gang switched bodies and Beatrice managed to escape by stealing Nick’s body and Forbes’ money to escape and start a new life. And it is Cyrus who the police blame for the deaths of Ruben (Dennis) and Brooke (Maya). But his girlfriend Shelby, who couldn’t stand his lies anymore, leaves him to fend for himself.

According to Greg Jardine, he initially wrote a different ending. He trusted Diversity that he absolutely wanted to punish Cyrus one way or another:

“I’m pleasantly surprised to see people have different opinions on the moral of the ending, which excites me. But the original ending was darker: Shelby stayed in Nick’s body and she was the one who visited him in prison and told him that we decided to change that Shelby was back in her own body, which was more of a victory for her.”

A continuation of the “inner game”?

If the movie Inside Game stands on its own, its open ending leaves room for its writer and director to consider a sequel to find out if the survivors can find their bodies and bring down Beatrice.

Greg Jardine isn’t closed to the idea, but he hasn’t considered the possibility yet: “People have been asking me about it since Sundance and I was very shocked. I guess time will tell, but at this point there are no firm plans for a sequel.”

This first film is already a triumph for the writer and director, who made a splash at the Sundance festival. After the screening of the feature film, the first offer was received within the first 24 hours. And in the end it was Netflix that bought the film rights for 17 million dollars, while Inner Game’s budget does not exceed 2.5 million GEL!

We have to wait for the first audience of the film on Netflix to know if the phenomenon reproduced on the platform is observed at the Sundance festival. If it’s successful, the streaming service could greenlight Greg Jardine for a possible sequel if the writer and director are so inclined.
