“Jack’s Weird World” plunged us into the creepy charm of Halloween Town, where we met the scariest monsters like Oogie Boogie, the Harlequin Demon and obviously the Pumpkin King, also known as Jack Skellington.
All the residents of Halloween Town have a spooky look perfect for this holiday, so we don’t really wonder what they’re doing there. Its appearance is enough of an argument to understand it.
However, it is somewhat surprising how some of these residents ended up in this town, most notably Jack Skellington. Because if you think about it, the pumpkin king was human at one point, but who was he really?
There are many theories about Jack’s life before he became the ultimate leader of Halloween Town. Some support the Tim Burton cinematic universe and believe that Jack is really the skeleton of Victor, from “Corpse Bride” .
Both are related to dogs, have great knowledge of the world of the dead, and are similar in appearance.
However, others have ventured to think that Jack Skellington was actually another great character who freezes us with fear: the headless horseman.
Coming to this conclusion is not an easy thing, because for this Jack Skellington needed to live and die in an era where Christmas with Santa did not exist. Jack has no idea about this holiday, nor about this noble and kind man from the North Pole, so he experiences incredible fascination when he travels to Christmas Town.
The image of the chubby, bearded and well-mannered man in the legendary red suit first appeared in the second decade of the 1800s, so Jack Skellington must have died a few years before that decade, a situation that perfectly matches the life of Akefalos Kavalaris.
Moreover, it is not just any Headless Horseman, but the one we see in the Disney movie, “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.” In this 1949 film, we learn the story of the Headless Horseman who, like Jack, can use a pumpkin as a head.
The theory of Jack as the Headless Horseman gains more weight when we consider the horseman’s past: a Hessian soldier who aided German mercenaries during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783).
This military training would explain why Jack is an experienced fighter and knows how to lead a group of people. In addition, the soldier died during the war, which perfectly matches the dates before Santa appeared.
What do you think of this theory about the origin of Jack Skellington?
