The Chamber of Deputies will hold an extraordinary semi-present deliberative session on Tuesday 8th, the agenda of which has not yet been defined. The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), will have to summon the group leaders to the traditional meeting in the official residence, in the afternoon, to decide the issues that will be voted on in plenary.
Betting regulation is on the radar. The deputies of the Parliamentary Front of Entrepreneurship (FPE) will debate the topic during a lunch at 12pm in Brasilia, in the presence of deputy Tião Medeiros (PP-PR), author of a proposal on the matter.
The Medeiros bill amends law no. 14.790/2023, which provides for fixed odds betting, in order to “condition the maintenance of the perception of the social benefits established by the federal government on non-participation in virtual betting”.
In practice, the proposal bans the participation of bettors who benefit from the federal government’s social programs. Companies in the sector are obliged to send a monthly report to the Ministry of Finance containing the identification of bettors and the amounts bet.
Furthermore, in the afternoon, the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) discusses the bill granting amnesty to all participants in the demonstrations that occurred since 30 October 2022, which would impose sentences on those who took part in the attacks of 8 January.
Also on the CCJ’s agenda is the project that amends the Constitution to prohibit the Federal Supreme Court (STF) from issuing monocratic decisions that suspend the effectiveness of laws and acts of the President of the Republic, the Senate and the Chamber , except in cases of serious urgency or danger of irreparable damage.
Also on the commission’s agenda are the PEC which creates the possibility of suspending the decisions of the STF and the bill which establishes the possibility of liability crime for the ministers of the Court.
