The scariest monsters in Guillermo del Toro’s movies: the pale is a

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro has made great films that have wowed critics and won him an Oscar, but another of the things that define him as a director are the creatures he brings to the screen.

The Judas Race – “Mimik”

In 1997 Guillermo del Toro started his career in Hollywood with this film. It’s about how a genetically modified insect controlled an epidemic in New York caused by cockroaches.

However, three years later these insects known as the Judas tribe quickly evolved and killed people inside the subway. They hide their wings by simulating the silhouette of a man in a raincoat and hat.

The Pale Man – “The Labyrinth of the Cloth”

This movie is about 11-year-old Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), who enters the forest and arrives in a fantasy world and meets the Faun (Doug Jones), who tells her that he is the reincarnation of a princess.

One of Ofelia’s tasks is to obtain a dagger from a child-eating creature. Here appears the Pale Man, a creature with white and reddish skin, who has his eyes in the palms of his hands.

The Amphibian Man – “The Shape of Water”

In 2017 Guillermo del Toro showed the story of Elisa (Sally Hawkins), a cleaner at a secret government facility who encounters an amphibious creature they are experimenting on.

Once again, Doug Jones has teamed up with the Mexican director to present a monster that is a tribute to classic Hollywood creepy creatures like ‘The Monster from the Black Lagoon’.

Vampires – “Blade 2”

When del Toro came to direct the sequel to Marvel’s vampire hunter Blade in 2002, he put his signature touch on these blood-soaked creatures of the night.

Jared Nomak’s character is the villain of the film and is a genetically engineered vampire who can create more like him. Unlike other vampires, reapers’ jaws open to reveal more teeth.

The Angel of Death – “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”

In the sequel to “Hellboy” Guillermo del Toro was able to move further away from the comics and give the story his signature dark fantasy twist, with characters such as a gas man, elves, goblins and the Angel of Death.

This monster with eyes on its black wings is a mysterious creature that has the power to save Hellboy from a mortal wound, though he warns him that doing so could cause the apocalypse.

Wendigo – “Antlers”

Although this 2021 movie is directed by Scott Cooper, it has the Mexican as the producer and he is the one who was responsible for the design of the terrifying creature called Wendigo.

This monster is a kind of horned god that takes form from the pain of humans. As in the folklore legends of the Algonquian peoples, some people are transformed into wendigos because of their greed and weakness in the face of evil.

Which of these monsters from Guillermo del Toro’s movies is your favorite?
