The session began with voting on Wednesday (9), but only Minister Gilmar Mendes spoke
The process that could lead to the removal or retention of the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, from his position has been suspended again at the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The session began on Wednesday (9) with the favorable vote of the rapporteur of the case, Minister Gilmar Mendes. But everything stopped there.
This is because, after the vote, minister Flávio Dino asked for a review of the process. As a result, the trial has been temporarily suspended and could only take place next year. Following the Brazilian team on Data FIFA, Ednaldo did not follow the session.
The mandate of Ednaldo Rodrigues, which began in March 2022, will extend until March 2026. During the last year of this period, elections for the presidency and vice-president of the CBF could take place at any time.
Understanding the Ednaldo Rodrigues case at STF
Ednaldo had left the presidency of the CBF by decision of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ). At the time, the Court of Rio de Janeiro understood that the confederation had signed a conduct adjustment agreement with the Public Prosecutor of Rio de Janeiro (MP-RJ) without the latter having the authority to do so. The decision then annulled the agreement and declared the election that chose Ednaldo Rodrigues invalid.
Therefore, an intervener was appointed to command the entity. The Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) took the case to the STF and, with an injunction from Minister Gilmar Mendes, Ednaldo and other leaders elected by the 2022 General Electoral Assembly of the CBF returned to their positions. Ministers will now decide whether to maintain or lift the injunction.
