Milton reaches Florida

Hurricane Milton made landfall on the Florida coast early Thursday, according to forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). More than 1 million residents have been told to evacuate their homes and seek shelter. The evacuation transformed cities into desert areas and caused congestion on highways.

On Wednesday (9), the NHC reported that Milton was 305 kilometers from the coast, with winds reaching 260 km/h, making it extremely dangerous. Although downgraded from Category 5 to Category 4, the hurricane still represents a serious risk, especially for the Tampa region, home to more than 3 million people and where authorities expect significant damage to homes and buildings, as well as the risk of flooding.

Other areas are also threatened, including Orlando. Disney chose to close its theme parks on Wednesday as a precautionary measure. The president Joe Biden warned that Milton could be the most destructive hurricane to hit Florida in 100 years.
