The actress appeared alongside Keanu Reeves and director Jan de Bont during a special anniversary screening of the film ‘Speed’
Sandra Bullock appeared next to Keanu Reeves and the director Jan de Bont during a Q&A session at a special anniversary screening of the film Maximum Speed (1994) this Tuesday (October 8). It was the first time the three discussed the iconic action thriller together on the same stage. At the time, the actress made an observation about the possibility of a third film in the franchise, saying that “does he think the film industry is no longer brave enough to make a third film like Maximum Speed.”
During the conversation, the actress was asked about a possible sequel to the action classic. With her characteristic sense of humor, she joked:
“The geriatric version. It won’t be quick.”she said, referring to the aging of the team. The actress also praised director Jan de Bont: “All these things happened because of the crazy man in the green jacket over there. He’s so soft and gentle today, and I’m like, ‘That’s not the man I remember.’ But he is the man who gathered the energy and the idea, knew what the public wanted and demanded the best from everyone. And everyone showed up to deliver.”
The event marked the return to public life for the actress, who remained out of the spotlight after the release of The Lost City (Lost City)in the summer of 2022, and the death of his partner, Bryan Randalllast year.
Sandra Bullock also reflected on the challenges of making a film like Maximum Speed these days:
“So what would be the movie that would make Jan’s brain and brilliance happy? It would take a lot from everyone. I don’t know if we’re still in an industry that’s willing to tolerate that and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I can be wrong. […] If he can’t accomplish what’s on his mind for the audience, then he’s failed, it seemed. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the public.”
In 2022, Bullock had already commented on his regret about participating in Speed 2and told the TooFab who felt “embarrassed” by the film. The actress explained that the concept of the sequel “it doesn’t make sense” and that the film was poorly received.
“This is a film I wish I hadn’t made and that no fans showed up to, that I know of. I’m still embarrassed to have been in it. I’ve already talked a lot about this. It doesn’t make sense. Slow boat. Slowly heading towards an island.”
