Novorizontino loses against Sport and Santos can regain the leadership of Serie B

After five months, Tigre do Vale lose their unbeaten home record and could lose first place again; Leão enters the fight for the title

The Novorizontino leader lost a five-month unbeaten run against Jorge Ismael de Biasi and still sees his leadership under great threat. This Friday, Tigre do Vale suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Sport, in the 31st round of the Série B of the Brasileirão. Crystian Barletta, Gustavo Coutinho and Chico scored for Leão da Ilha, while Marlon scored the only goal for the home team.

With this result, Novorizontino, in fact, remains in the lead, with 54 points, but could be overtaken by Santos, who plays against Mirassol on Sunday. On the other hand, Sport has so far equaled the same points as Peixe, with 53, in third place. If Peixe doesn’t win, Leão could move to the top of the Division next Wednesday (16th). This is because Leão will play a match in the final against Operário, in the 16th round of the national competition.

The game

Organized, Novorizontino was scared in the first minute of the game. Marlon shoots from the edge of the area and forces Caíque França into a good save. Shortly afterwards Pablo Dyego puts a ball on the crossbar. Despite the Aurina pressure, Sport opened the scoring. At 37′ of the first half, after a good play on the right, Fabricio Domínguez finally crossed for Chico, former Novorizontino, who found the net. Five minutes later, Leão, in fact, increases the score. Gustavo Coutinho, in the first half, ends up in a corner and scores the Rossoneri’s second goal.

Behind the scoreboard, Novorizontino, all things considered, returned in the second half in search of an equalizer. In the first minute, Neto Pessôa appears alone in the penalty area, face to face with Caíque França. The Rossoneri goalkeeper suffocated it. In the 11th minute, referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo signaled a penalty for Novorizontino. During the charge, Marlon struck and reduced him. However, Leão killed the match around 30 minutes. Jordi badly misses the goal, Gustavo Coutinho dribbles and leaves the “right” goal for Chrystian Barletta. Without a goalkeeper, the attacker only had the task of pushing the ball.

Pepper with invincibility

The result, in fact, also maintains the Rossoneri’s unbeaten record since the arrival of coach Pepa. Now, the Portuguese, after all, has accumulated eight matches under Leão, with five wins and three draws.
