English senior managers analyze names and scenarios for the Dutch manager’s imminent farewell, after the worst start to the season in the last 35 years

Manchester United are on the brink of a manager change after their worst start to a season for 35 years. With Erik Ten Hag’s acceptable departure from the club, Zinedine Zidane’s name has begun to circulate in English senior meetings as a possible successor to the Dutch manager. The Frenchman’s CV elevates analysis and places him as one of the professionals suited to this role.

After considering a number of names for Ten Hag’s position, the English management paid particular attention to that of Zidane. According to the local newspaper ‘Daily Mirror’, in fact, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe identifies the former Real Madrid manager as a “dream candidate”.

Manager Thomas Tuchel, a Champions League winner with Chelsea, also appears as a potential candidate for the job. The purchase of the German seems more unlikely, given that the English federation is in advanced negotiations with the coach to lead the national team.

I want Zidane

Consecutive Champions League champion, the Frenchman has become very selective about his projects. Zinedine Zidane has even allowed himself the luxury of rejecting a series of proposals since leaving the helm of Real Madrid in 2021.

The local press still considers Zidane’s signing as a “distant dream” of United’s ambitious project. The difficulty does not discourage Ratcliffe, who recognizes himself as a great admirer of the French coach and is betting on his leadership to restore the club and bring it back to the top of European football. But for now there is no positive sign regarding a possible agreement.

Names such as Gareth Souhgate and Ruud van Nistelrooy were also on the agenda. There is also interest in Edin Terzic, who took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season.

Manchester United season

Without a win since defeat at Barnsley on September 17, United are enduring a frustrating start to the season. In the Premier League, for example, they occupy 14th place with just eight points out of a possible 21. Crystal Palace, who are in the relegation zone, have three.

Ten Hag’s team has more defeats than victories in this edition of the Premier League: two triumphs, three defeats and two draws. Indeed, the English management has been under pressure to resign since the humiliating 3-0 defeat against Tottenham, at Old Trafford, on September 29. It is worth noting that the team has yet to win another match since then.

United’s next match is scheduled for next Saturday (19th), at 11am, against Brentford. The duel will take place at Old Trafford and is worth a lot for climbing the Premier League table.
