New with Joaquin Phoenix (Napoleão) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) is far from reaching the box office of its predecessor
On display for two weeks, Joker: Delirium for Twothe long-awaited sequel to the successful 2019 feature, could be one of DC’s biggest failures in theaters and cause a loss of US$200 million (R$1.120 billion at current prices) to Warner Bros. coffers. The information is from Variety.
So far, the novelty, starring Joaquin Phoenix (Napoleon) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born), grossed US$51.5 million at the domestic box office and US$165 million internationally. To compare, in 2019, Joker had raised, respectively, US$96.2 million and US$248.4 million in just three days of release.
In its second weekend, the film has already shown a drop of 81% compared to the previous week, which puts at risk the possibility of covering the new production costs, which totaled US$ 200 million, and publicity costs, which were around US$100 million.
For the film to pay off, it must raise at least US$375 million, but sources from Variety believe that Joker: Delirium for Two should present a loss of between US$ 125 million and US$ 200 million.
