With a peak of 54 thousand downloads on Thursday 10th, Elon Musk’s network is the 21st most downloaded application in Brazil
THE X (formerly Twitter) is once again among the most downloaded applications in Brazil. On Wednesday 9th, the date of the unlocking, the network recorded 49 thousand downloads, according to a survey by Mobile Time with AppMagic.
The wave of downloads continued intense even the following day. The app was downloaded 54 thousand times on Thursday 10th and in four days of activity X jumped from 861st position among the most downloaded apps in Brazil to 21st.
News of the impending release caused download volume to increase from 6,000 to 21,000 between Monday and Tuesday, the days leading up to the release. Before that, the network Elon Musk recorded an average of less than ten thousand downloads per day.
The block
The clashes between the Minister of the Federal Court (STF) Alexander of Moraes and Elon Musk began earlier this year, when the billionaire accused the minister of censorship. On August 17, after the closure of X’s office in Brazil, the judge ordered Musk to appoint a legal representative in the country within 24 hours and the payment of finesexceeding R$ 18 million, for failing to respect the blocks on profiles on the social network. None of the determinations were accepted. OX was suspended completely on August 28th.
The measure also provides for a fine of R$50,000 for anyone who tries to bypass the block by using a VPN, a tool that hides the location of Internet access.
Although the billionaire defied Moraes’ orders, the platform began to comply with all decisions, as well as paying the fines imposed by the STF.
Other platforms
Bluesky was the application that benefited the most from the void left by X, but it was the platform that suffered the most with its return. On Monday there were 6 thousand downloads, while on Thursday only 6 thousand.
In turn, Threads, which enjoys unlimited Instagram support, remains above its two competitors. The network, owned by Meta, records more than 100 thousand downloads per day in Brazil and is always among the ten most downloaded. On Thursday there were 109 thousand installations, even with X already unlocked.
