In the 13th century, after traveling the long Silk Road, Marco Polo (Lorenzo Richelmi) finds himself a servant at the court of the great Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong). After leaving Venice, a young merchant discovers a fascinating and dangerous world he knows nothing about and thus enters a world of power, greed and bloodlust.
But it is a real diplomatic mission that begins for Marco, who, in addition to falling under the spell of Princess Kokachin (Zhu Zhu), must try to prove himself to the Khan. Between power struggles and greed, betrayals and sexual intrigues, loyalty and identity issues, he will have to play tricks to win the latter’s trust and help him in his wild quest to rule the world…
Marco Polo is simply the story of a legendary explorer’s journey through the Mongol Empire. Inspired by his early years at Kublai Khan’s court, the series debuted on Netflix in December 2014.
A true homage to Chinese martial arts films, it is supported by a quality cast to lead Lorenzo Richelmi, Benedict Wong or even Zhu Zhu – and Michelle Yeoh in the 2nd season.
Two seasons of ten episodes are waiting for you in the show, with a special episode between the two chapters. Although his fate will be annulled, Marco Polo A must-see for fans of the historical series, it’s also part of the Netflix must-watch list if you enjoyed Vikings – now Shogun!
