The actor guarantees that the scene would not have been the same if he had been pretending, opting to record it for real
Just before consecrating himself as the vampire Edward Cullen from the Twilight saga, Robert Pattinson starred Few Ashes: Salvador Dalí (2007). In the independent film, he had the opportunity to give life to the painter mentioned in the title during the time when he was just an art student in Madrid.
The plot takes place between the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Spanish Civil War and portrays Dalí’s love affair with the poet Federico García Lorca. Everything is seen up close by the then film student Luis Buñuelfriend of the duo.
Due to this closeness between Dalí and Lorca in the plot, Pattinson had to record some scenes of sexual content. His dedication to the role was such that at a certain point, he guaranteed he had a real orgasm.
Pattinson made the revelation in an interview with the German version of the magazine Interview (via Huffpost), in 2013. Furthermore, he said he considered giving up his career while recording the film.
Once, I decided to give up acting and that was when I recorded ‘Pucas Cinzas’. I played Salvador Dalí and I had to record many scenes in which I was naked and also had to masturbate. In truth. My face having an orgasm is recorded for eternity.”
Afterwards, Pattinson was asked why he didn’t fake an orgasm. The actor assured that it would not have been the same thing.
It wouldn’t work, so I thought I’d better relieve myself in front of the camera.”

Other films with real sex scenes
Robert Pattinson’s scene is far from the only real example within the film industry. There are several films that followed the same path, with true scenes of sexual activity. Caligula(1979), which features the actress Helen Mirren among its stars, it features several passages of this type.
There are also examples of filmmakers using real sex scenes in their films. This is the case of the controversial director Lars von Trierwho made use of artifice in works such as The Idiots (1998), Antichrist(2009) and Nymphomaniac(2016).
Chloe Sevignyan actress who participated in several independent films, gained notoriety and generated controversy thanks to a scene in The Brown Bunny (2003). In it, the artist appears having real oral sex on the director and her then-boyfriend Vincent Gallo — another filmmaker who was a fan of the feature.
