Is Smile 2 as good as the first movie? Find out what viewers think

Expectations are always high after a great success. It’s about director Parker Finn and the sequel to his first film, Smile, which was released in 2022. In France, as in the world, this terrible journey had a wonderful effect. In France, it even exceeded 1.2 million records.

Smile 2 follows a new protagonist, Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a pop singer adored by thousands of fans. It is he who becomes the target of the curse, and the damage is even more impressive than in the first film.

This second opus offers history on a much larger scale – both in means and in fear. And the audience in all of this?

On AlloCiné, the film receives an average press rating of 3.3 out of 5. This is slightly higher than the first part, which shows a press rating of 3.2. For the audience, the two films have the same rating: 3.1 out of 5*. Perfect stability. What about public opinion?

They liked it

According to Julian 8 (5 of 5): “Everything is mastered in this movie, be it the script, actors (mentioning the lead actor), music. It’s very difficult to make a good horror movie without rehashing what’s already been done in the genre. The bet paid off.

According to Elena1303 (5 out of 5): “I already really liked 1, and 2 is even more accomplished and creepy (although there is not much new in the script, since eventually the main character discovers the curse during the film…). The main actor’s strengths.

According to Brandon Benoit (4.5 out of 5): “Smile 2, directed again by Parken Finn, is great horror. Scarier, scarier, more psychological than its predecessor. The actor is incredible in his role and the ending is really sick. Sensitive souls abstain.

According to The Cinophile (4 of 5):Smile 2 is everything that made the first one special, but better. The film is masterful from A to Z, managing to advance its mythology while avoiding over-recycling the previous one. It’s smart and damn the ending of this ultra brave meta will blow your mind.”

According to Zola Ntondo (4 of 5): “Smile 2 far exceeds the expectations that its predecessor raised, with subtle brutality and scares that instill themselves in the minds of the audience.

They didn’t like it

According to The Droogie (2.5 out of 5): “Much less scary than the first one. More aesthetic and refined, but loses the simple and gruesome side of the first. This makes it less immersive. However, we’re left with a decent film that doesn’t break the bank, but falls a little flatter than the first.”

According to Schick (2 of 5): “There’s no point in watching this movie, it’s really long-winded, it doesn’t have much logic in the narrative, the audience quickly throws in the towel because the movie wants to be too clever to compensate for the bad writing..”

According to Kamil Stikmak (1.5 out of 5): “It’s honestly impossible to put ourselves in a movie, no goal, we have absolutely no idea what’s real or not. We are bored to death.”

According to Imc-3 (1.5 out of 5): “Ultimately, Smile 2 fails to recreate the alchemy of its predecessor and leaves the impression of a waste..”
