Al G1Souza said the recordings were made at Lago do Rei, near the municipality of Careiro da Várzea, 20 km from Manaus. In two videos, he shows several alligators on sandbars that appeared during the region’s drought.
The species is called black caiman and can reach five meters in length. The weight of the animal can reach up to half a ton.
Rainilson says he isn’t usually afraid of boating among animals, but he knows the situation is dangerous. “I’ve been going there for a long time, I started walking around this lake when I was 12. And always during this period of drought, regardless of the intensity, alligators appear,” he told the portal.

The videos made in early October had repercussions on social media. The fisherman has a page where he publishes documentation of the Amazon fauna of the region in which he lives.
Animals of the black caiman species exist only in South America. The species does not usually live in groups, as in the images of the fisherman, and tends to be solitary, except during the breeding season.
This alligator is considered a top predator of the food chain, meaning it is capable of preying on any animal present in its habitat, including pumas, jaguars, boas and anacondas. They typically feed on smaller animals such as turtles, fish, capybaras and deer.
The species is currently at low risk of extinction and its population is considered stable in Brazil.

Drought in the Amazon
The Amazon state is facing a severe drought this year, caused by illegal fires and also low levels of major rivers. All river channels crossing the state are in critical condition.
The Rio Negro and its tributaries are experiencing the worst drought in 120 years, which has dramatically changed the landscape of Manaus. All 61 municipalities in the Amazon were affected, with more than 800,000 residents suffering the consequences of the drought.
