In an official statement, the actor stated that the attitude was ‘disrespectful’ and said that, if they want to make a sequel, it will be with the original cast and crew
Imagem Filmes confirmed, during Expocine 2024, that it is working on a sequel to Lisbela and the Prisoner. The announcement took many people by surprise, including Selton Mello(I’m Still Here), protagonist of the 2003 film.
In an official note, released through a fan portal, the actor commented on the news: “They announced it in a somewhat clumsy and, why not say, disrespectful way: with the people who did the work and with the public, who deeply love our film”he wrote Mello.
“You don’t announce something of this magnitude without consulting the cast and crew. Guel Arraesdirector and screenwriter, Paula Lavigneproducer, Virginia Cavendishactress and producer, Deborah Falabellamy beloved Lisbela, we were not approached by Imagem Filmes for such a sequel and we are perplexed by such inelegance. If the idea was to look for us then they started very badly, creating unnecessary and unpleasant noise”added the actor.
Selton Mello He also said that the project will not happen and, if it does, it will be done correctly: “This project does not exist and if one day we decide to do a part 2 it will be with the original group, done our way, with the people and professionals chosen by us”he added. “I’m working hard on the release of ‘I’m Still Here’, very moved and happy with the reaction to our chest film which opens on November 7th in cinemas.
In the midst of this turmoil, I was taken by surprise by the incorrect announcement of the sequel to a film that I love and that the public holds dear:
‘Lisbela and the Prisoner’.
They announced it in a somewhat clumsy and, why not say, disrespectful way: with the people who did the work and with the public, who deeply loves our film.
You don’t announce something of this magnitude without consulting the cast and crew. Guel Arraes, director and screenwriter, Paula Lavigne, producer, Virgínia Cavendish, actress and producer, Débora Falabella, my beloved Lisbela, we were not approached by Imagem Filmes for such a sequel and we are perplexed by such inelegance.
If the idea was to look for us then they started very badly, creating unnecessary and unpleasant noise.
This project does not exist and if one day we decide to do a part 2 it will be with the original group, done our way, with the people and professionals chosen by us.
A lot of people ask me about this news at a very busy time, so I use my space to express what I think, closing the subject once and for all.
The focus is “I’m Still Here”, “Bury Your Dead”, starting their journey and “O Auto da Compadecida 2”, a film packaged and created with a lot of love, work and zeal, from beginning to end.
Thanks.”
