Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump remain in a tight race in seven crucial states just two weeks before November’s U.S. presidential election, according to a Washington Post/Schar School poll on Monday.
The former Democratic prosecutor is ahead in Georgia with 51% to 47%, while the Republican candidate is slightly ahead in Arizona with 49% to 46%, both results within a margin of error of plus or minus 4, 5 percentage points of research.
Kamala, who became the party’s nominee after US President Joe Biden gave up seeking re-election, also has leads in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin – three states where she will campaign this Monday with the former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney.
Trump leads in North Carolina and is tied with Kamala in Nevada 48% to 48%, according to a poll of 5,016 likely voters surveyed from Sept. 30 to Oct. 15. The former president will hold a rally in North Carolina later this Monday after surveying the recent damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Trump, 78, is in his third consecutive bid for the White House after losing to Biden in 2020. He continues to falsely attribute his defeat to widespread voter fraud and faces, among other charges, federal and state criminal charges for attempting to overturn the election results. . Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
Kamala, 60, is a former local prosecutor, state attorney general and U.S. senator seeking to rebuild the party’s diverse coalition with young voters, women and minorities, as well as attracting some Republicans disillusioned with Trump.
Monday’s results echoed other recent polls that found a tight race in seven crucial states, even with Kamala maintaining a lead across the country, according to some pollsters.
Overall, 49% of likely voters said they supported Kamala and 48% said they supported Trump, according to the Post poll. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll last week, Kamala maintains a marginal and stable 45% to 42% lead over Trump.
However, Electoral College results by state will determine the winner of November’s contest. The seven crucial states are likely to be decisive, and polls of their likely voters offer an indication of the race so far.
